@wmag Guillermo del Toro’s #Frankenstein is a visual feast, thanks in part to costume designer @katehawleycostume’s sumptuous, jewel-toned creations. “We looked at a lot of Caravaggio paintings,” Hawley says. “We talked a lot about color and light” especially the challenge of maintaining vibrancy in a candlelit world. As Elizabeth, Mia Goth wears richly hued gowns that blaze against the gray Victorian London backdrop, including a spellbinding malachite-inspired dress that glows like a living gemstone. Her wardrobe shines even brighter with @tiffanyandco pieces, among them an archival scarab necklace that echoes Elizabeth’s reverence for all living creatures. At the link in bio, Hawley breaks down the inspirations and painstaking work behind the film’s unforgettable looks from the monster’s wolf coat to Elizabeth’s blood-soaked wedding dress.
