Ciril Jazbec has been awarded 2nd Place in the People’s Pick / Public Vote for the Taylor Wessing Photo Portrait Prize 2026. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Selected from nearly 6,000 submissions by over 2,000 photographers worldwide, just 60 portraits were chosen for exhibition. The image was created during an @insidenatgeo storytelling workshop in Greenland, where Ciril worked closely with a group of young Inuit to explore how to tell their own meaningful stories. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The portrait shows a young Inuit girl, Leona, shortly after taking part in an ancient seal hunting ritual deep in the Uummannaq Icefjord in northwest Greenland. As Ciril Jazbec explains, ‘For Leona, this moment was a rare opportunity to witness and participate in a traditional way of life, a way of life that may soon be lost to the warming world.’ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Through long-term documentary projects, Ciril seeks to raise awareness of communities impacted by the climate crisis. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With deep gratitude to Leona, for allowing herself to be portrayed, and special thanks to Ciril’s Greenlandic friends and the community in Uummannaq. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #CirilJazbec #Photographer #TaylorWessingPortraitPrize2026 #NationalPortraitGallery #LairdandGoodCompany | Laird and Good Company Production
