Born in Amarillo, and brought up in Houston, Texas, Mark began taking photographs at the age of 13, having won his first Diana camera in a bet with his older brother. His first love was the darkroom where he began experimenting with printing and developing in the family’s bathroom.
Today, Mark continues his love of the darkroom by using the platinum palladium process to create large-scale, 30”x 40” prints.

In 2001, Mark moved from Rolling Stone to Condé Nast.

In a career spanning more than 30 years, Mark Seliger has shot advertising campaigns, tv commercials and music videos as well as landscape and personal work including portraits of Holocaust survivors, transgender men and women on Christopher Street, and documentary photography of Cuba.
In 2011, he founded a non-profit exhibition space for photography called 401 Projects, which has featured shows for James Nachtwey, Eugene Richards, Albert Watson, Platon, among others. He also hosted the Emmy-nominated show “Capture” on YouTube’s Reserve Channel

Mark Seliger is the recipient of such esteemed awards as the Alfred Eisenstaedt Award, Lucie Award, Clio Grand Prix, Cannes Lions Grand Prix, The One Show, ASME, SPG, and the Texas Medal of Arts Award.
His photographs have been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world and are part of the collection of the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and the National Portrait Gallery in London.
