Much of what Jon produces is derived from a concept, before realised into an expansion of ‘real-life’ – a process that he refers to as “world-building”. “My most effective projects, I think, walk the line between the real and digital – the mid-zone that is a little uncomfortable.”

PERSONAL WORK

Jon questions the polarising effects of the digital world. He  recently worked on a music video for British pop rock band The 1975, co-directed with Ben Ditto. Titled The Birthday Party, the video sees a new world where tech has risen above all else. Evaluating topics of narcissism and loneliness, its avatar protagonists enter into a ‘digital detox’ programme.

THE 1975, THE BIRTHDAY PARTY

Jon has installed a five-storey augmented reality experience, called Digital Falls, in the atrium of Selfridges department store in London. The AR artwork saw the five-storey atrium at Selfridges transformed into a column of water inhabited by pulsing, sculptural shapes that were inspired by bioluminescent creatures. It was described by its creators as "Europe's largest AR experience".
