Valerio Spada is an italian documantary and fashion photographer living between New York and Milan. His work is exhibited, collected, and published internationally.

Born in Milan and raised between Geneva, Bari and Rome, Valerio Spada spent a nomadic upbringing taking a polaroid camera everywhere he went. "My parents introduced me to the concept of ‘errance’, as the French say."

His editorial and commercial work has appeared in publications such as Vogue Italia , i-D, Replica, Muse and Mixte among others.

He has shot campaigns for brands including Gap and directed videos for music artists such as Vinicio Capossel.

His award-winning photobook, GOMORRAH GIRL, won universal acclaim for telling the story of Annalisa Durante, who, aged 14, was shot and killed by a bullet aimed at a boss from the Camorra Mafia in Naples.

Valerio was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in support of his work exposing the hardships of those living in the impoverished parts of Italy.

With his latest series I AM NOTHING, Valerio Spada continues his exploration of the Mafia phenomenon in Italy, this time focusing on the Sicilian Mafia and the impact that organized crime has on the fabric of the society.
