Mareterno and Comitiva by @lorenzo_catena
“These two images come from different photographic projects: one from Comitiva, where I followed a group of young people I met by chance in a small southern Italian village over three summers, eventually forming a friendship; the other from Mareterno (Eternal Sea), a collaborative project and book created with photographer Valeria Tofanelli.
Coming from a street photography background (non-intrusive and spontaneous) I don’t usually interact with the people I photograph. In fact, it’s quite rare, as I mostly enjoy practicing candid photography. But in both of these works, I chose to experiment with interaction and partial control, opening a dialogue with my subjects. Breaking my own rules was freeing: I discovered how meaningful it can be to truly know the people I photograph, enriching my visual storytelling while still staying true to the language I’ve developed over time.”
