Artist Spotlight: Miami based photographer @jda.usa has spent five years traversing the backroads of Florida with groups of young men, friends and strangers alike, building building a moving portrait of youth, identity, and belonging. His series Florida Boys offers a counterpoint to the performance that often defines contemporary masculinity, showcasing companionship where there’s often isolation, and tenderness in place of stoicism. Raised between cultures after immigrating to Florida as a kid, Josh’s work also circles the question of what it means to find home, exploring the friction between belonging and vulnerability for those of us still figuring out where we fit. “I’m not denying the politics or the stereotypes, just imagining something different. A Florida shaped by care and curiosity. A place where young men can be tender, playful, and fully themselves.”
