Artist Spotlight: Ghanaian photographer Derrick Ofosu Boateng’s (@derrick_o_boateng) world is built from color as language.

Derrick floods his images with saturated yellows, greens, reds, and blues, hues that echo those found on his country’s flag and hold deeper spiritual meaning across African culture, until the frame sits somewhere between photograph and painting.

In his book ‘Hueism’, you'll find images that unfold like an index of color. Each shade paired with the traditional African proverb or poem that sparked it.

“A big part of my purpose is to shift how the world views Africa and to help re-educate people on the richness, depth, and true essence of African culture.”

Images from ‘Hueism’, Derrick’s debut photobook.
