Behind the scenes with British floral artist Hamish Powell (@hamishpowell), turning 1,500 corn husks into a glowing installation. For the @__abask__ installation at Salon Art + Design NYC, Hamish brings an observation from a flower market to a much larger scale. Layered corn husks become luminous sculptural forms, revealing the textures that first caught his eye at Mexico City’s Mercado de Jamaica. The finished lamps surprised him with their lightness: even the largest, without its base, can be lifted with one hand. “I first witnessed the magic relationship between corn husks and light in Mexico last year. It was totally glowing, and the overlapping layers sort of compounded the vascular texture of the husks — and in that moment I knew I’d do something with them one day.” On view with @__abask__ at @thesalonny November 4–8, 2026 Park Avenue Armory, New York, NY 10065.
