« Koffi Olomide & Quartier Latin, live à Paris Bercy , 19 février 2000 »
Olivia Lifungula Gombi, a Congo-born and Belgium-raised photographer and director now based in London, is renowned for her intimate explorations of femininity and identity. Her work seamlessly blends a distinct personal voice with a uniquely sensitive perspective, evident in both her still photography and moving images.
Olivia was named on the 2021 British Fashion Council’s New Wave: Creatives List and included in Vogue Italia’s prestigious list of 20 female photographers to watch. Her work has also been showcased in The New Black Vanguard: Photography Between Art and Fashion—an exhibition that has traveled to notable venues such as London’s Saatchi Gallery, San Francisco’s Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD), and Fotografiska in Stockholm.
In June 2023, Olivia’s film Yemaya, a profound exploration of Afro-Caribbean spirituality, was officially selected for the Milan Fashion Film Festival, further solidifying her reputation as a visionary artist. Currently, she is working on a personal project capturing Kinshasa’s dynamic creative scene while preparing for her debut narrative short film, which is set to begin production next year.
