Willem Skantine shooting Oklou for Crack Magazine Marylou Vanina Mayniel is a French musician from Poitiers. She released her debut mixtape, Galore, in 2020, followed by her first full-length album, Choke Enough, in February 2025. For over a decade, the vocalist and producer—recognized by a generation of hyperpop enthusiasts as Oklou—has crafted a unique left-field pop sound that explores themes of digital alienation and the deep yearning for connection that defines our era. Mayniel’s music navigates the tension between emotion and expression, acknowledging that sound, language, and the internet—no matter how skillfully manipulated—can never fully encapsulate the raw intensity of feeling or the indelible imprint of formative memories. This contrast is most evident in Choke Enough’s title track, where themes of life and death intertwine in a delicate, haunting dance. To mark the release of her album, Oklou graces the cover of Crack Magazine’s 163rd issue. Creative Direction @crackmagazine Art Direction @michellehelenajanssen Magazine Designer @fem.kecampbell Talent @oklou_ Photographer @willemskantine Hair & Makeup @kevyncharo Styling @pdemones Production @current.production Post House @sheriff.projects #sheriffprojects
