« Breaking4 » with Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon by Nike Faith Kipyegon is a Kenyan middle and long-distance runner, and one of the greatest in her sport. She is a three-time Olympic champion and three-time world champion in the 1,500 meters. In 2023, she made history by also winning the 5,000 meters at the World Championships in Budapest, becoming the first woman ever to achieve this double victory. On June 26 at the Charléty Stadium in Paris, during Nike’s “Breaking4” event, Kipyegon attempted to become the first woman to run a mile in under four minutes. Although she finished in 4:06.42, improving her own world record by 1.22 seconds, the time was not officially recognized due to the event’s non-standard conditions. Nonetheless, the performance marked a landmark moment for women’s athletics and inspired audiences around the world.
