William Abranowicz is a photographer best known for his poised and meticulous still life, landscape and lifestyle photographs. With a deep affinity for the classical forms of interiors and exteriors, Abranowicz has been a contributing photographer to Condé Nast Traveler for 25 years. His work has appeared in nearly every major publication in the United States, Europe and Asia–including The New York Times Magazine, WSJ Magazine, Vanity Fair, Elle Decor, Architectural Digest, Vogue, Town & Country, Bon Appétit, More, Real Simple, Martha Stewart Living and Travel + Leisure.
He has also created successful campaigns for Ralph Lauren Home Collection, Rolex, Eddie Bauer, Estée Lauder, IBM, Banana Republic, Merrill Lynch, Old Navy, Orvis and Target.
Not only does Abranowicz have an in-depth knowledge of the history of photography, but also considerable talent as a fine art printer, assisting George Tice for nearly a decade as well as working for the esteemed Horst P. Horst. These twinned artistic aspects are continually at play in his image making.
Abranowicz has exhibited at leading galleries and his prints are held in public and private collections worldwide–including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, ICP in New York, The National Portrait Gallery in London and The Smithsonian in Washington, D.C.
In 2001 his photographic tribute to Greece, The Greek File, was published by Rizzoli. Hellas, published in 2011 by Hudson Hills Press, continues the photographer’s dialogue with Greece; a study of the past as it yields to the present day. His newest book, The Mianus River Gorge (2014), is a tribute to a watershed preserve near his home. Abranowicz has also photographed books for Ellen DeGeneres, Jeffrey Bilhuber, Alan Wanzenberg and Martha Stewart. He is currently at work on a monograph of his extensive travel, portrait, and interiors work over the last 25 years.
Along with his son and daughter, Abranowicz is a licensed falconer and avid environmentalist with involvement in local, regional and national water, land and climate issues. He lives in Bedford, New York.
