Based in New York, photographer Andrew Jacobs creates fashion imagery imbued with the powerful simplicity of colour and light.

Spending his childhood in South Africa, Andrew moved to the USA as a teenager and earned a degree in journalism before choosing to pursue photography.

Andrew began photographing his friends in his social group, before moving on to work for independent fashion brands. He now boasts an impressive client list including J.Crew, Mansur Gavriel, Net a Porter, Noah, SSENSE, Uniqlo and Vince.

Inspired deeply by colour theory his creative process focuses on core technical components of composition, light and mood. “I love interaction, laughter and movement - photography is really fun for me and I want that to be evident in the pictures.”

Alongside his commissions, Andrew particularly enjoys the rewarding experience of travelling for personal work, exploring his long term interest in documentary photography. “With fashion, you have ultimate control, documentary is the opposite. It forces you out of your comfort zone all day, every day. It has taught me a lot and I’m excited to share this work and keep doing it.”

Andrew collaborates with magazines such as American Vogue and Document Journal. Working also on assignments for T Magazine and WSJ Magazine marks a satisfying return to his journalistic roots. In 2018, Andrew's work was included in Red Hook Labs’ New Artists exhibition.
