@nicola.avanzinelli is an Italian visual artist, a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara, and a former participant of Atelier Smedsby (2017), led by JH Engström and Margot Wallard. He alters his images through chemical processes like oxidation and acidification, turning photography into a space where reality and illusion blend.
Exuvia, from the Latin meaning “what is shed,” is a series of images in which each work is presented like a fossil. The photographs reveal the transformation of reality through the processes they undergo - corrosion, abrasion, and alchemy. These processes are not just surface treatments, but form an essential part of the images’ language and meaning.
