More than 20 years ago, I was asked to cast 50 iconic women for Ann Taylor’s 50th anniversary, photographed by Annie Leibovitz. Does it get any better than that? The portfolio was called ANNIE, ANNA & ANN — Annie Leibovitz, Anna Wintour and Ann Taylor. 50 women. 50 portraits. It became the largest 50-page printed insert in Vogue history, followed by an exhibition of the portraits sponsored by Vogue. With so many brands celebrating major anniversaries this year and last, I’ve been thinking back to this one. I worked a bit for Ann Taylor then, and being asked to help find 50 women to represent 50 years of the brand was incredibly special to me. I still think Annie should have been in it herself. I think I tried. For me, there is no more iconic woman. Projects like this didn’t come around often. I’m still grateful.
