A series of threaded works from Amsterdam based-artist Hagar Vardimon (@happyredfish). 'Which Way the Wind Blows' intertwines found photography with meticulous hand embroidery to explore the relationship between home, memory, and the environment.

“A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you, the less you know,” Diane Arbus said. In the series “Which Way the Wind Blows,” I hand-sew straight embroidery stitches directly onto found photos of everyday life to create a new, physical layer on the image. These horizontal lines, which mimic the colors of the photo, appear as if they are being blown by the wind, hiding and revealing the subject at the same time. This process renders the image fuzzy and almost unrecognizable, much like a distant memory that is starting to fade. By stitching over the figures, I try to anchor them to the landscape, turning an everyday moment into something that is both obscured and preserved."
