Air Afrique x Nike, the Air Max RK61
Nike and the Paris-based collective Air Afrique are turning heads with a new Air Max that bridges sneaker culture and the stories of African diasporas.
Over sixty years ago, Air Afrique was connecting the capitals of West Africa and opening pathways to Paris. Today, that pioneering spirit is reinterpreted, not in the skies, but through design: leather, air-cushioned soles, and a sneaker that carries history in every detail.
The Air Max RK61, born from the collaboration between Nike and the innovative Air Afrique collective founded in 2021, is a hybrid between a loafer and a sneaker. Its silhouette nods to 1990s Air Max models while echoing traditional footwear forms, offering both style and the comfort of Nike Air.
Building on last year’s Air Afrique Football Club campaign, the RK61 continues the partnership’s exploration of shared ideals, blending past and present in a single, iconic design.
