Based in New York, Tyler was born and raised in Atlanta, where he got his start making skate videos and documenting music, fashion and youth culture.

In 2018, he made history as the first black photographer to shoot a cover of American Vogue for Beyoncé’s appearance in the September issue. The following year, a portrait from this series was acquired by The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery for its permanent collection.

Tyler held his first solo exhibition "I Can Make You Feel Good", at Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam in 2019.  The ICMYFG book  was published by Prestel in july 2020.

He was the recipient of a Jury Award at The Agents Club Photography Awards '20 for his ICMYFG exhibition at FOAM Amsterdam

Recently, his fellowship culminated in an exhibition of the new works at the Gordon Parks Foundation Gallery in Pleasantville, NY (An Imaginative Arrangement of the Things Before Me - Sept. 24, 2021 – Jan. 2, 2022)
